the best sound? screamin eagle 2 race application only pipes, not legal for road use…. like the cops would have a clue anyways. i like vance and hines myself, but typically, i don’t buy slip ons, i go for the whole gusto and swap pipes
the comment about cops and markings and instant ticket and such… haha, get a clue
i didn’t browse the drag specalties book to answer your bars question, but there are lots of choices for apes… you just have to remember that the c has the built in riser, so changing the risers needs a speedo mount as well, and anything adding more than 2" will need cables hoses and wiring extended. the easiest ape hanger look without extensive/expensive mods is 2" straight risers and the buckhorn bars turned up until the grips are level, the stock wiring, cables and hoses should all still work with that setup and you’ll get the look you’re after. if budget doesn’t matter, then 16" on 4" risers look shweet!
It’s against the law to alter in any way the exhaust system of your motorcycle. States are finally enforcing laws that went in to effect starting in 1978. In Minnesota, a cop doesn’t even have to here your bike run. If he can’t see the manufacturer’s markings clearly displayed on the muffler, you get a ticket. In some states, they impound your bike.
Check Ebay. I put these on my "04" 883 and they work fine (Loud as hell without the bafflers though).
SLIP ON MUFFLERS HARLEY SPORTSTERS 2004-2008 SLASH CUT
I had a set of SEII Slash-Cuts on my ‘05. They were PERFECT with the baffels in. It had a deep rich rumble that didn’t annoy the neighbors when I short shifted on the way to work in the morning. When you opened it up though, they sounded awsome. They were the perfect combination in my opinion. You don’t’ want to be the douche who wakes people’s kids up and sets off car alarms, but a HD shouldn’t sound like a sewing machine either. I have a Vance and Hines can on my current Buell, and it is nearly exactly the same way. It has a good rumble that sounds tough but not too loud at idle, but really barks when you wind it up.
I had the chrome ones, but I saw a black powdercoated set of those cans and they gave the bike a whole new look. With so many overchromed bikes out there, the flat black was really different looking. If I were to do it again, I would try that look. It’s just a matter of taste though.
I was also told that the Cycle Shack slash cuts are the exact same cans as the SEII, but I can’t confirm that. They sure look the same and sound the same though.
Good luck.
There is a lot of bike bashing here, but there is also lots of good advice. I actually like it better than a lot of fan sites. Having people rip on your stuff thickens your skin and lets you decide if you give a
**** or not what other people think.
Good luck! The Sportster series is probably may favorite when it comes to the HD line.
Not a fan of the apes though. That’s just a matter of taste and I think they ruin the handling, which is actually pretty good for a cruiser. I think drag bars look really tight on a 1200C. I know from experience that my 1200 Roadster could beat plenty of DONT-KNOW-HOW-TO-RIDE squids in the curves, though realistically, an equal rider would have smoked me if he was on a GSXR.

Dude don’t even waste another moment here, go to hdforums.com and put this site behind you. Not the best venue for Harley advice.
