Anyone know of a good (loud) aftermarket exhaust for a Harley davidson?
I have a 2004 sportster 1200. Right now it has screaming eagles on it but its not as loud as i want it to be.
I know there are a lot, but i want the loudest. If you have the loudest sportster around your block then want brand did you use?
I have a set of Rinehart Racing pipes on my 2003 Sportster. Everyone tells me it’s extremely loud, but I haven’t heard that yet - you know how different things sound ON the bike.
Mine is built up too, compression makes a difference in sound - so do the cams. But I like it a lot, so do other people - the people who don’t like it, don’t matter.
I bought, cut up, and built a sweet two into one pipe for mine from a Buell - Looked effing awesome too. But I got the Rineharts because I love the fat pipe look and black tips - heard they sounded killer and they do.
My stock pipes with the baffles drilled out pissed off a guy I knew because my Sporty sounded better than his BIG TWIN with Screamin’ Eagle!!
I seen one the other day looked like a guy took his rain gutter off the side of his house and mounted it on his motor. No really there are a ton of exhuasts for that series all depends on what style you want…. you really must have no clue, there are hundreds upon hundreds of custom built pipes around for that bike
straight pipes
cant get no loader then drag pipes.
Have heard good things about the Cobra’s…I myself have Vance and Hines and wish I had something louder as well.
Good luck, will be watching to see what else gets posted.
Kinda in the same boat as you.
Open drag pipes with turn-outs will set off car alarms NP…
Plus, with the turnouts the cops can’t stick their nightstick in the exhaust to check for baffles.
But you’ll probably have to re-jet your carb.
I thought it was illegal to mess with Harley pipes and stuff, did they change that?
look up JP Cycles on google. They have tons of everything Harley, including pipes.
Next see if they have replacable inserts or are rebuildable. Then remove the baffle or packing and "rebuild" the pipes before installing.
Dont forget to rejet the carb or your pipes will turn blue due to high heat and the engine will wear out faster. Thunderjet makes great carb kits and are found on the JP cycles catalog I always look at the 1 1/2 inch thick JP catalog before doing anything, they are the best!
LOUD PIPE SAVE LIVES. The cops may frown on this and replacable baffles may save you on a "fix-it ticket" Put em in get it signed off and remove em….
vance and hines nothing better
the se pipes you have now will put out more power than nearly all drag pipes unless you can put it on a dyno with adjustable slider pipes to get the right length, even then the power will be in one narrow rpm range and power will fall off if you go above or below it much
SAMPSON——-without a doubt
Don’t move into my neighborhood!
You should be looking for pipes that sound "good". "Good" does not = "Loud". Good has a sweet low rumble at idle, a noticeable growl when accelerating modestly, and "crack" when you really crack the throttle. At normal cruise RPM (for that gear) your pipes should not be putting out anything over 85db (referenced from the seated driver’s ear).
Lots of aftermarket pipes out there that sound "good" without being obnoxiously "loud".
Any set of drag pipes will do the job, just remember to ask your mechanic or do further research on the back pressure issue. Some fuel systems need the back pressure from the mufflers to perform right…
