It’s interesting that the dealer will happily sell you (and even install) Harley-Davidson brand custom pipes and mufflers, but aftermarket pipes that are just as good will void your warranty… Maybe it’s time to find another dealer

Well I can tell you I know of 3 Harley dealers here in the tri-state that as long as they do the work and you buy a program chip to re-map the air/fuel mixture going to the F.I. Your warrenty is still good. Yes yo do need to re-map with electonic fuel inj. when you penup the exhaust
You need to upload a revised performance program into the bike’s computer. You can get that from J & P Cycles.
One cool thing about Harley’s is that the factory is not going to void your transmission warranty for modifying your exhaust. Talk to some other dealers about "flashing" your control unit. It is a 20-30 minute procedure. You need to change you air/fuel ratio in order to accept the free flowing exhaust. Do it. You will gain performance.
One other option, get a power commander installed when you change your pipes. This is more common than changing handlebars. Have an independent shop with a good reputation take care of the service. Look for a shop with a dyno to dial in the work. If anything ever goes wrong with your engine, put the old parts back on and take it back to the dealer.
Power commander or some other performance control modual will adjust fuel/air timing advance etc. Some guys just change pipes and check the plugs to see if there is a lean condition and put a chip in if needed.
