Exhaust for a 2005 Harley ElectraGlide with a Carb?
Does any one have a suggestion for a low sounding replacement muffler for a 2005 ElectraGlide?
I'm looking for something that isn't much louder than the stock mufflers.

screaming eagles isnt obnoxiously loud at speed. u’d have to really crack on them to be annoying when stopped. they’d be cheaper than the vance&hines or reinharts…both of which can be quite loud.
if you want to the replace a bad muffler with a stock, go to a Harley shop and ask the service manager if they have any take off stock pipes, usually they keep a few for just such reasons, or if a bike is traded and the customer keeps the aftermarket pipes. another option is to try either J&P cycles, JC whitney or V-twin. about anything you find will be loud, it;s the cool thing to do man, but good luck
I have a 2002 Electraglide. I had them put on H-D touring mufflers before I picked it up. They are louder than stock, but not so loud that I piss off the neighbors. They got a little louder with some mileage on them, they’ll bark if I crack the throttle. I did have to rejet the carb.
I have a Dyna with the TC-88. It has SE II’s. They are a bit noisy when you twist the wick a bit, but they have a "mellow" sound in the 1,800 - 2,400 RPM range. That’s where I spend most of my time for mileage purposes. (MPG goes in the toilet when I dog the ‘ol gal. But it is fun!)
The other factor here with the SE II’s on my ride is I also run an S&S "E" carb. That feeds some juice. You may not run an S&S and so the "Eagles" may be a bit more quiet on your ride. You ain’t gonna sound like a rolling sewing machine with them, but they are pretty quiet until you get on the throttle.
Best bet before dropping dough on pipes is to see what someone else has that is close to what you want. If the combo sucks, they will definitely speak out! (I know I do. My worst mistake was drag pipes and a re-jet job on an XL1200C. Mileage stank, and the noise was so bad I had to push the bitch out in the street to start it so I wouldn’t go deaf! No noticable increase in power either!)
Just remember never to trust the salesweasel. He just wants your hard earned clams. I lost a bit of mileage with the pipes, but that could be the S&S’s fault also. I do know I got great grunt now. When I turn on the go it’s like a great big hand pushing my butt up the street. And so far it has been very reliable, and the pipes look good. (On my bike.)
Theres plenty of pipes that will sound a little better than stock. Vance and Hines, Bassani, Rhineharts and a bunch from H/D to mention just a few. I have Rhineharts on mine and they sound great. Bottom line is how many dollars you want to spend. If your changing your mufflers I would also go for a good free flow air cleaner (Screamin Eagle or K&N should work fine). While your at it and have everything apart go for the Dynojet thunderslide kit for your carb. It comes with new needles and seats and a plastic slide for better throttle response. Between the three upgrades your bike will run great and sound better as well.
