What do you mean by "calm"?
Do you want to quiet it down, improve performance, or make it louder?
Rush and Cycle Shack slip-ons work well with stock to mildly modified Sportsters.
For the price, I think the Cycle Shacks are the best. You can get them in tapered, slash cut, and turnouts. The chrome is decent and they perform well. They sound good to me.. They’re a bit louder than stock, but not unbearably loud.
I have a 95 XLH 883 with the stock exhaust. I happen to really like the way it sounds and my immediate neighbors are extremely grateful that I do. Another guy in the hood has one with after market pipes and like s to leave for work on it at 5AM. Neighbors hate him because he wakes everyone up high revving it to warm it up. Your stock pipes are going to be your best bet to keep the noise down and horse power where it is. Any further restriction on the pipes may result in a loss of power. You may have stock pipes with after market mufflers. Make sure the mufflers themselves are stock. If not you can certainly pick up a pair CHEAP on E-Bay from someone selling their takeoffs.
