the F L T came first in 1980 it was a 5 speed shovel head. the swing arm is mounted to an extension of the transmission by a shaft that go's through 2 rubber donuts 1 on each side of the frame another donut is the front motor mount. the back bone of the frame is a 6" square welded box . its called the rubber glide.
in 1982 they stripped this model down & put a sportster front end on it and called it the F X R . the FLT has an inclosed drive chain that runs in its own oil bath. the FXR dosnt have this its got a chain oiler that runs from the oil pump to the rear of the primary. the frame -swing arm - trans & motor are the same on an FLT & an FXR. the FLH had the old style welded tube frame & no rubber mounts. & the transmission was mounted on a frame plate not to the rear of the transmission. an FLT and a FLH look about the same at first glance both have fairings & big tanks but their nothing alike . the FLT-FXR became the DYNA around 1990 something not sure of the exact year.

No, the frames are completely different, some parts may fit, but the FXR is a much lighter frame.
