what are some good pipes for a harley sportster 883L?
hey ppl so i bought a 07 harley 883L about a month ago and am looking in to getting some pipes for it i like the look of the martin bros pipes as well as the vance and hines short shots pipes im lookin to make it loud but not loose too much gas mileage from it i know i would prob also have to rejet and get maybe a bigger air cleaner for it any suggestions on what pipes and air cleaner mods i should get i really like the cone air cleaners thanks
I have the Vance and Hines short shot staggards on my 07 Dyna, I LOVE them. They are super loud even with the baffles in. And the baffles are super easy to get out and put in. Just one little screw. I haven’t noticed a change in my gas milage. I did get the V & H fuelpak which was super easy to install.
Screaming Eagle
They are expensive, but worth it.
I have a friend who has these on their Sportster.
Very nice sound. Loud, but not obnoxious.
I did this with my old 88 883 and really screwed it up. Take it from me, let the pros do the work and you can bounce ideas off them.
I have thunderheaders on my 03 sportster - http://www.thunderheader.net/ I don’t think they are the loudest, but you don’t want to be too loud anyway. I noticed an improvement in the bike after installation. I like the look of them with the two into one.
Edit - Doing the pipes on a sportster is easy, if you have even the smallest bit of ability to turn a wrench. The only time you would need a "pro" would be if you were getting custom pipes that would need special attention. Thunderheaders, Screaming Eagle, Vance and Hines all are made for a specific make/model and just bolt on with instructions. Not sure about martin brothers as I have not known anyone with them, but I would assume they are the same.
don’t buy s-e if you want a great set of pipes get vance- hines but don’t forget to re-jet the carb’s and high flow air filter if it is f-i air filter and a power commander or v-h version of the power commander
All the above answers ignore the fact a 2007 Sporty is FUEL INJECTED. You need the SE breather kit, the pipes of your choice and a race tuner. Your bike, unless you do ALL of it, will run like stir fried ass.
I have a 2007 HD 883L; recently changed out my pipes from stock set to a set I purchased from PipeDreams.
I used a Dynojet -Power Commander III- to change the fuel injection mapping (they’re on the WEB). Pretty simple to do, just download the correct map and plug-in. This device costs about $280.00. You will need this if you change out the stock pipes. Don’t forget to buy torque cones.
The EFI is located under your seat.
I have an 07 Sportster 883L and I went with Pipedreamz Insomniacs drag pipes they look awesome on the bike and sound great this is there web address if you want to check them out http://www.Pipedreamz.net what ever brand of pipes you go with if they are drag pipes make sure to get the torque cones as well and if you change your air cleaner to an aftermarket you’ll also have to have the injection system re-mapped ,if you keep the stock air filter on it and only change your exhaust you won’t have to have it re-mapped and it will not effect your gas mileage
get v&h slip ons, most of the other pipes don’t accommodate shields and will discolor ending up quite ugly
go hit a couple of bike nights in your area and listen to the pipes until you find one you like. Most people will rev their bikes for you to show off their pipes.
SE High flow air cleaner and a Stage 1 remap will finish you off and you will have a bike that sounds the way you want it.
