I have the Vance and Hines short shot staggards on my 07 Dyna, I LOVE them. They are super loud even with the baffles in. And the baffles are super easy to get out and put in. Just one little screw. I haven't noticed a change in my gas milage. I did get the V & H fuelpak which was super easy to install.

Screaming Eagle

They are expensive, but worth it.

I have a friend who has these on their Sportster.

Very nice sound. Loud, but not obnoxious.

I did this with my old 88 883 and really screwed it up. Take it from me, let the pros do the work and you can bounce ideas off them.

I have thunderheaders on my 03 sportster - http://www.thunderheader.net/ I don't think they are the loudest, but you don't want to be too loud anyway. I noticed an improvement in the bike after installation. I like the look of them with the two into one.

Edit - Doing the pipes on a sportster is easy, if you have even the smallest bit of ability to turn a wrench. The only time you would need a "pro" would be if you were getting custom pipes that would need special attention. Thunderheaders, Screaming Eagle, Vance and Hines all are made for a specific make/model and just bolt on with instructions. Not sure about martin brothers as I have not known anyone with them, but I would assume they are the same.
