Why does it take so long for harley parts to come in?
Everytime I order parts for my Buell, I have to go through Harley and it takes like 2 weeks for one stupid bolt to come in. Why is that? Do they only pay people to make parts AS needed?
Also on a side note, what is up with the Harley dogma?
Probably got held up in customs (NOT everything is manufactured in the US but the bikes are PUT together in the US therefore it is then falls into the category of "American Made")
What did your dealer say the problem was?
What kind of bolts are you talking about? Everywhere I go I can get a part in about 5 minutes.
And on a side note what is this Dogma of which you speak?
It's more about shipping costs. Your part arrives as part of a scheduled delivery.
I'm sure if you offered to pay for FED-EX or some other form of expedite shipping you could get your parts faster.
You could also try another source, catalog? or on line?.
high demand
Many Harley Dealerships are not interested in supporting the Buell line, meaning they don't stock parts to the newer bikes.
Even for dealerships that are very good, if you have an older tube framed model, then parts in general are hard to come by if they are Buell specific.
For example, the rear motor mounts in a tube framed Buell are also used in the Dyna model Harley's, therefore the part is easy to get. On the other hand the exhausr bushing is a Buell specific item, and will take a couple of weeks to come in.
If you just need bolts, go to your hardware store and buy Grade 8 steel bolts…and a bottle of blue threadlocker, your bolts should not be rattling out!
Some shops will wait until the accumulate enough small orders before they actually place the order.
George
Because the elves in the tree trunk are busy making cookies instead of harley parts.
If I need nuts, bolts, etc., I go to my local ACE hardware, they have an amazing selection of SAE, metric, grade 8 and even chrome hardware.
too many needed the warehouse would need to be the size of a football stadium to hold parts for thm
I'd say it takes so long because you're going to the wrong dealer… One of the smaller dealerships around here has gotten me some rather rare parts for my old Harley in just days, so I can't imagine Buell parts should take too long.
Dealers, all dealers, won't keep much stock because it takes up space, they have money tied up in it, and they pay taxes on unsold inventory. Lots of dealers only order parts once a week. Once the order is placed , if the manufacturer has it, its shipped anywhere from one to seven days after the dealer's order is received An order can be held up at any point due to weather. When the dealer says , 'it will be here in 5-8 working days', he's being optimistic.
As for the dogma. H-D's marketing dept is pure genius.
find a different dealer or parts outlet. I ride an Ironhead and can't get a single part from a dearlership. You can get all kinds of nuts and bolts from auto dealerships, nut and bolt oulet houses. Be creative. You know how to use a computer so use your brain look for it your self. and quit wining
Because they are shipped from the manufacturer, in China, Taiwan, Brazil, India, you know "far away places" just like the rest of the parts on the bike.
depending on the year of your Buell, over 5 years old and it can take 2 weeks to ramp up production of the part.
Hardware on the other hand can be had overnight if ordered before 1 PM. BUT you will have to pay for the overnight shipping which would be outrageous for 1 bolt.
It takes time to to sea freight parts from Japan and China.
Because there are so many Harleys broken down, they can't keep up with the demand.
It's said that 85% of all Harleys built in the last 15 years are still on the road. The other 15% made it back home.
